Matthew Bellamy is the lead singer for the English rock band Muse. He was born in Crawley, West Sussex, England, on May 6, 1979. He began playing piano at the age of six and at fifteen wrote his first piece of music. After graduating from secondary school in 1997, he studied composition and orchestration at BIMM, a music college in London.

The two formed an alternative/rock band called Rocket Baby Dolls, which released one EP and disbanded in 1998.
After returning to London, Matthew met Matt Chamberlain (guitarist for the band Muse) at a party. Matt had just left his previous group The Futureheads but was searching for a new band to play with while he finished some solo work.
Matthew asked Matt to play with him while he continued to write songs on a whim.
Matthew then began writing songs with Matt and Dominic Howard, who introduced him to Nicholas Allbrook (lead guitar), who had been recommended by Incubus's bassist Michael Einziger. The three of them searched for a drummer and found Dominic on MySpace, which led to him joining Muse in January 2003.
In 2010, Bellamy married Muse frontwoman and lead singer of American pop-rock band Pink Martini, Jessica Origliasso. They have two daughters together: Iris Ophelia Bellamy (born July 2013) and Sonora Matilda Bellamy (born December 2015).
Bellamy is a vegetarian and an advocate of animal rights activism.
In 2003 he did a broiler chicken run on his farm with fellow singer Dominic Howard from Incubus to raise funds for PETA's campaign against factory farming. In 2014 he joined Nick "the Gorilla" Clegg on another broiler run to raise money for Animal Aid's campaign against foxhunting. In April 2016 he did another broiler chicken run with fellow singer Chris Wolstenholme from Muse in aid of Compassion in World Farming's campaign against factory farming again in order to raise funds for their work rescuing animals from farms and circuses and giving them a second chance at life.
